Peonies Wallpaper Silkscreen on Tyvek This screenprinted wallpaper is part of an ongoing series called SUBVERSIVE DOMESTICITIES, a collection of work that looks at and portrays lived experiences within queer and feminist domestic space. The objects and décor that exist within a home speak to the values, ways of living, and identities of its inhabitants. I am designing and creating a series of imagery printed onto wallpaper, along with screenprints and relief prints that will hang over the wallpaper. The wallpaper and prints are presented as installations, creating narrative rooms. The imagery is derived from objects, texts, and patterns from from interviews I conduct with those who identity as queer or feminist and live in non-normative living spaces. The aesthetics of my work utilizes bright colors and patterns. This body of work considers the current situation we are in with COVID-19 and the national uprising for racial justice. My target audiences are queer and feminist communities, as we are restricted in how we can connect during these times. I will document this distant yet collective experience, questioning how we create home space, whether transient or permanent, under conditions outside of our control. Website @fiona_avocado |
